Castnow Bandwith

The Castnow solution can be configured to meet with the bandwidth available at the property.
There are two ways in which bandwidth are managed by the system:

  •  Per Chromecast device (download and upload)
  • Per Chromecast network (download and upload)

The default values implemented by the Castnow system are currently 4Mbps download/upload (per Chromecast) and 40Mbps download/upload (Chromecast network). These can be configured via the web portal at any time, prior to or post installation. All SVOD providers implement adaptive bitrate streaming technology, which means that by detecting a user’s (Chromecast’s) bandwidth and CPU capacity in real time, the streaming provider will adjust the quality of the media stream accordingly. These providers encode a single source media (video or audio) at multiple bit rates. The Chromecast switches between streaming the different encodings depending on available resources. The result manifests as little to no buffering, fast start time and a good experience for both high-end and low-end connections. A typical HD stream will consume 3-5Mbps, where an SD stream will consume less than this. Netflix have conducted several studies into this technology and user experience, details of which can be found here
